Biography
Zach Galla started climbing around the age of 10 at Adrenaline Climbing Gym in Suwanee, Georgia. The program at Adrenaline helped Zach develop his skills in the gym but also his passion for bouldering outside. Not long after starting to compete, Zach excelled in the local youth competition scene and broke through to win his first bouldering national championship in 2018. At the same event, Zach made the finals at his first open national championship. After that, he carried his momentum in the comp scene on to win num erous competitions including both combined national championships, 2019 and 2020.
Despite Zach’s success in the competition world, his passion for outdoor bouldering has been strong since the beginning. Growing up obsessed with climbing history, he was al ways motivated by the notoriously stout lines established by Jimmy Webb and James Litz in the southeast. After repeating many of these boulders such as “Chinese Arithmetic” (V14) and “Half Moon” (V14/8B+), Zach began to contribute a few of his own with the first ascents of “Brass Knuckles” (V14/8B+) and “Dancing Queen” (V13/8B). Zach’s love for climbing recently brought him out west to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he went straight to work on the state’s hardest boulder, “ Grand Illusion” (V16/8C+). After man y days of work, he completed the climb in the first season in his new home. Since then, he has been climbing frequently indoors and out, enjoying all things climbing that SLC has to offer.
